Welcome to UNSW!

Congratulations on starting your new role at UNSW. This page provides a simple checklist to get you started with your computer, Wi-Fi, emails, software, and printers.

If our self-help guides don't solve your questions, please feel free to contact UNSW IT Service Center through the following channels:

Useful Links

Username and Password

You will receive your zID which identifies you to all the IT systems prior to starting. You will need to create a zID Password (password that is used with your zID)

To access the following:

  • Intranet - use your zID and zID Password
  • Third Party services and software - use zID@ad.unsw.edu.au and zPass
  • Email - use N.Surname@unsw.edu.au (details of how to access this will be sent to you with zID)

Check out the Identity Manager page for more information.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

MFA is a requirement at UNSW when accessing single sign-on (SSO) applications. When joining you would have received information and links to help you set up MFA.

Refer to the MFA website for all information, how-to-guides, and support available.

Hardware and Software

Depending upon your role or contract, you may be given an UNSW Device. These UNSW devices often called Standard Operating Environment (SOE) devices. SOE devices will have access to all the software required for your day to day tasks and required activities.

If you find a need for any additional non-standard software, please check out Software for Staff.

Wi-Fi

All campuses have two main Wi-Fi networks: Uniwide and Eduroam. All staff are encouraged to use Uniwide, unless you are on the Hospital Precinct where Eduroam is recommended.

Eduroam is available at most Australian University sites and is designed for visitors from other Universities.

For more information visit Wi-Fi for Staff and Students page.

Email

All active staff have access to email using Microsoft Office 365. Your SOE device should already have MS Outlook installed.

To access email using a browser or mobile app check out Email for Students and Staff page.

Printing

The Staff Managed Print Service (MPS) provides A3 & A4, black & white and colour printing from any SOE device. The service is offered to staff on specific staff printers at no cost.

Further information and self-help can be found on Printing for Staff page.
